Just released Nielsen//Net Rankings show OnTheSnow.com is once again the most-visited, dominant snow sports Web site in the world. Nielsen reported OnTheSnow logged 2,247,878 unique visitors to its site in January 2010, a leap of 41 percent year over year from January 2009.
The popular Web portal that combines worldwide snow condition reports with news, features, guides, resort overviews, and a wide Internet community, confirmed its unchallenged dominance through a new report by Hitwise Competitive Intelligence.
Hitwise reports OnTheSnow.com increased its market share in the snow sports portal field to 64 percent. This represents a 21 percent increase in market share from a year ago. The closest snow sports portal to OnTheSnow has a 7 percent share. OnTheSnow.com is published by Mountain News Corporation.
New features, including ski equipment tests and reviews, an expanded travel section, and aggregation of ski resorts social updates from Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, and Twitter helped drive the strong traffic increase for this year
“The global economy continues to struggle, but skiers and snowboarders remain unwaveringly passionate about their sport and are looking for a place to get and share information with each other,” said Mountain News Global Managing Director Chad Dyer.
“The continued audited growth of OnTheSnow.com throughout North America and in Europe is another affirmation that skiers and snowboarders use the Web as their primary media source. OnTheSnow.com features the type of news and comparative information content winter mountain visitors are looking for,” Dyer said.
The Nielsen audit certified there were 12,523,661 page views in January 2010. OnTheSnow’s global editorial staff of 20 professional travel and ski editors provide pertinent, timely content on 13 worldwide versions of the portal.
