Mountain News Corporation (formerly AMI News) is celebrating it's 40th year reaching mountain recreation participants via media. Here is the history of our company.
1968
Company founder John Hamilton formed AMI News for the purpose of centralizing snow reports. The company specialized in providing snow reports to radio stations throughout the United States.
1985
AMI News eclipses 500 radio stations in its network coast to coast.
1994
AMI News launches University Network, a precursor to the web. Product used gopher technology to distribute snow sports content to over 300 colleges and universities.
1995
AMI News launches web's first snow sports portal, OnTheSnow.com. Site quickly evolves into most visited snow sports site on the web.
1997
AMI News begins partnership as official snow sports provider of Yahoo!
1998
AMI News launches MountainGetaway.com. Site quickly grows to most visited site for summer mountain travel.
2001
AMI News changes name to Mountain News Corporation to better reflect it's expanded media offerings.
2004
Mountain News eclipses 400 Internet Media Outlets in it's content network.
2005
Mountain News eclipses 900 radio stations in its snow reporting radio network.
2006
Hitwise Competitive Intelligence ranks OnTheSnow.com the most visited snow sports site on the web.
2007
OnTheSnow reaches over 1.1 million monthly unique visitors. This is the first time any media vehicle in the snow sports industry has eclipsed a monthly audience in excess of 1 million skiers/riders.
OnTheSnow begins partnership with The Weather Channel supplying Cams, News, &nsbp; Reviews for Weather.com.
OnTheSnow launches in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.
